New Basketball Event Raises nearly $15,000 for United Way

Latitude Media, a parent company to locally owned radio stations My 104.3 & Buck 92.3 hosted the first-ever “Backyard Brawl Basketball Benefit” on Saturday, December 30th, 2023 at at McGuirk Arena on the campus of Central Michigan University. They had four local schools come together for some intense, yet fun hoops action — Mt. Pleasant Oilers, Beal City Aggies, Shepherd BlueJays & Sacred Heart Irish.

Many local businesses donated to this benefit as well! They are: Clark Modular Homes, Isabella Community Credit Union, Brad Malley Well Drilling, All Seasons Fireworks, Barberi Law Firm, Fisher Companies, Jons Country Burgers, JNR Engraving, Konwinski Construction, Coyne Oil & Propane, Mt. Pleasant Automotive, Brad Gross Electric, Gates Drilling & Service, The UPS Store and the Spachman Family.

Local business sponsorships brought it $3,750 and $11,116 was collected in proceeds at the door. 100% of monies raised came directly to United Way of Gratiot & Isabella Counties. We will now re-invest that money back into our community through several different programs, including supporting our local schools. Annie Sanders, United Way of Gratiot & Isabella Counties’ President & CEO said, “This was an amazing event that came together through true community collaboration! We are grateful for our friends at Buck 92.3 Radio for spearheading the first-ever Backyard Brawl. The athletics directors from all four schools were instrumental in bringing these teams together for four successful match ups. The community came out in force to support them. The proceeds garnered through the Backyard Brawl will be invested right back into our community as United Way invests in important programs and initiatives at our local schools and area non-profits. We are already looking forward to the event next year!”

We’d like to give a big thank you to the athletic directors, student athletes and all of the spectators who made this possible. And of course, a huge thank you to Buck 92.3 Radio for putting on this event and garnering sponsorships from local businesses. We are so grateful!
