About us

It takes everyone in our community working together to create a brighter future. Together, united, we can inspire hope and create opportunities for a better tomorrow. Founded in 1954, United Way of Gratiot & Isabella Counties is a 501(c)(3) public charity as designated by the IRS.

United Way envisions a strong community where everyone achieves their potential through quality education, financial stability and healthy lifestyles.

United Way provides leadership and resources to improve the quality of life in our community by generating revenue, creating awareness and engaging volunteers.

United Way is committed to being a good steward of the community resources that are entrusted to our care. We will be financially efficient with administrative and fund development costs, while expecting the same of our affiliate agency partners.

According to our most recent audits (for Gratiot and Isabella counties), our internal fundraising and management expenses were right around 12.5%, which is half the amount suggested by the Better Business Bureau for nonprofits. We are a VERY lean operation.

Fortunately, our Signature Partners (local businesses and organizations that understand that it takes resources to do purposeful things) help us to cover the majority of those internal costs. As a result, 93 cents on every dollar donated goes back into the community to help local kids and families achieve their potential through quality education, financial stability and healthy lifestyles!
